This website highlights the teaching career of Vanessa Miller who is based out of New York City and directs a makerspace program at a private k-8 school. She’s been teaching in the NYC independent schools for the past 10 years with a focus on visual arts and digital fabrication ranging from stop-motion animation, graphic design, 3D design, and creative coding projects. Vanessa is inspired by the STEAM and Maker Movements, aiming to give her students the tools to problem solve while experimenting with different tools and mediums. Her biggest goal is empower students to find their voice through using technology and design. Additionally, Vanessa is a modern and contemporary art junky known to travel great distances for experiential pieces of art by Richard Serra and James Turrell.
In 2010 Vanessa earned a Masters Degree from the New School in Media Arts and in 2005 graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies.
